Abbott, Lon

Teaching Professor
Geological Sciences
University of Colorado-Boulder

Lon Abbott is a professor in the geologic science department at the University of Colorado-Boulder. He became fascinated with Rocky Mountains geology while growing up in Boulder, and has focused his geologic studies on the processes that create and define the high country.

Current projects include study of the surface uplift history of the Colorado Rockies, the incision history of the Grand Canyon, and deciphering when and why Australia’s Great Escarpment formed. I love sharing my passion for geology with the public via talks, field trips, and popular geology books and articles.
