Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

Text

The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (1848) ended the Mexican American War and resulted in Mexico ceding a huge amount of land to the United States. The US then set about assessing and organizing this territory, even though it was contested by Indigenous people on the ground. Attempts to assimilate the Mexican land cession over the next several decades prompted horrific conflict between the United States and Indigenous nations.
