Denver City

November 1858 – William Larimer, Jr., jumps the claim for the town of St. Charles on the west bank of Cherry Creek and renames it Denver City after James Denver, the governor of Kansas Territory. Denver City eventually merges with Auraria, forming the nucleus of modern Denver.
