Childers is a Colorado native. He earned degrees from both Western State College and Colorado State University before completing his PhD at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. An environmental historian, Childers is the author of Colorado Powder Keg: Ski Resorts and the Environmental Movement, as well as contributing author to Denver Inside and Out.
